Initially I wanted to save the world and so did a degree in Sociology/Psychology and Politics, that is essentially what the heading Social Policy covers. It was at the time of Thatcher’s Britain, the beginning of our nations political downfall and the start of Privatisation and looking to America as a political role model. I was citizen Smith.
By the time I realised that I would not be able to save the world after all… I had four children and put all my hopes and dreams into the small world I had created at home and truly loved being a Mum.
Once the kids got a bit older, I began to think about Art. Art and English were the only two things I was any good at, whilst attending school.
Enrolled onto the Higher Education Certificate in Art and Design, when my youngest child was six. Really felt at home in the Art college in Leeds. My work was unexpectedly sculptural. I was interested in cone shapes and designed some Moorish looking floor lamps. Colour or a complete lack of colour played a big part in anything I made at that time. Unfortunately only in existence now are some rather shabby images.
